Community
There is no greater power than that of community
Investing in our community doesn’t just feel good, it’s good business. Our philanthropic strategy is simple — it’s about Maine. We want to make it clear that when you support Bissell Brothers, your money is supporting Maine and those that call it home. Our industry touches so many facets including farm and agrarian development, thriving arts and culture, health and humanity, fisheries and wildlife conservation, clean water protection, animal stewardship, and community development. We invest in these areas to continue the cycle, and remain committed to helping our community flourish.
Thanks to your support, Bissell Brothers is able to give back at least $50,000 each year to Maine-based organizations. Thank you.
Our partners
investing in Maine
The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital
Five percent of all Baby Genius can sales get contributed directly to BBCH. As of 2022, we have donated over $40,000, and we are on track to contribute much more over the years. We feel fortunate to be involved with such a wonderful organization right in our neighborhood!
Friends of Baxter State Park
Bissell Brothers has pledged 3% of all taproom Preserve and Protect can sales to Friends of Baxter State Park. By purchasing P&P cans in our tasting room, you are also supporting our mission that means that you’re part of the solution!
Full Plates Full Potential
Our annual Milo Fall Foliage Ride was founded in 2019 to directly benefit Full Plates Full Potential. We're working to bring the community together in Milo for a wonderful cause, and to raise awareness to the needs of children across the state. We've been proud to support Full Plates for years, and will continue well into the future.
Maine Farmland Trust
We have formed a partnership with Maine Farmland Trust which, in its 20 years of service, has protected 300 farms and nearly 60,000 acres of farmland throughout the state while supporting over 900 farm families with services to grow strong businesses.
Portland Trails
In its nearly 30 years, Portland Trails has cultivated a massive web of trails and pathways spanning 70 miles through the Greater Portland area. The trails service the area’s 300,000 residents and have big plans in the coming years! Bissell Brothers is the sponsoring steward for the Fore River Trail which snakes along Thompsons Point and beyond.
Portland Museum of Art
Art for All is an initiative that supports the PMA's dedication to being an open, accessible, inclusive, and welcoming museum for all, through exhibitions and programs that reflect our community and create experiences with art that strengthen our bonds and bring us together.
Clean Water Initiatives
Sebago Clean Waters
Sebago Clean Waters aims to protect water quality, community well-being, a vibrant economy, and fish and wildlife in the Sebago region through voluntary forestland conservation. These forests generate, filter, and sustain the Greater Portland area’s water supply, which is among the 50 cleanest in the country.
The Maine Brewshed Alliance
Clean water makes great beer. Clean, healthy rivers, lakes, and streams are vital to Mainers’ day-to-day lives. They help ensure safe drinking water, good habitat for fish and other wildlife, and support recreation and tourism. They also support our booming craft beer industry.
You Earned It Series - Charity Based Brewing
Many foundations, charities, and organizations have impacted our lives here in Maine. In 2019, Bissell Brothers launched the You Earned It Series in order to showcase various non-profit organizations in our community. Any Bissell team member can develop a recipe for a one-time beer in a smaller format. And in 2021, beers from this series became available in cans for the first time.
From these batches, $1000 is donated to the organization of the brewer’s choosing. Through this program, we can make beer styles not normally found in our portfolio, offering our guests a variety outside the normal rotation, and also our team a chance to experiment with new ideas.

Four Weeks of Giving - 2021
Our annual Four Weeks of Giving in December is a time to reflect and appreciate the community around us. Each year, we donate all draft sales from four Sundays in December. Both Portland and Milo pool our sales and then the total is distributed evenly to each organization.
Here is the 2021 partner list:
Maine Children's Home, Maine Immigrant Rights Coalition, Animal Welfare Society, Presumpscot Regional Land Trust, Pine Tree Hospice, Piscataquis Regional YMCA, Piscataquis County Soil and Water Conservation District, Piscataquis Regional Food Center
We are fortunate to have been able to donate $1338 to each organization!
Thank you for all you do for Maine!
